The Hemporium - Calgary’s Original Hemp Store

Thanks Calgary!

Filed under: — site admin @ 3:43 pm

The fallout of the recent civic election would suggest Calgary voters support hemp stores as the aldermen who were most vocal about ‘’shutting them down'’ were not re-elected. The re-election of our Mayor also appears to suggest the same as he gave the White Hat treatment to Canada’s Cannabis King, Marc Emery, when he visited in September.

Drug paraphernalia shops

Filed under: — site admin @ 2:43 pm

It must be civic election time again. To claim their 15 minutes of fame, some city councilors have slithered onto the soapbox to register their disdain for ‘’drug paraphernalia shops'’. It must be pointed out that the government’s definition of drug paraphernalia pertains to instruments which have the resins of an illegal substance burned onto it. The products in question are universally regarded as smoking accessories.

For any politician to question the legality of these shops is well past any debate as Canadian courts have long since determined. All pipes in all stores are new and unused and not considered illegal regardless of the type of leaf that may be decoratively embossed on it. Besides, the retailer hasn’t any control over the product once it has left the store.

This now begs the question ‘’Do city councilors understand the concept of a needle exchange program?'’ When the city hands out free needles to junkies the self-serving alderman should shut his cake hole about the smoke shops and sink back to the sewer from whence he came.

MARC EMERY

Filed under: — site admin @ 4:32 pm

Just when we thought that the narks couldn’t get any sleazier…
(Actually, I have never doubted that they could get sleazier, but it is such a nice cliché.)

Following the arrest of the Vancouver Three, an absolute condition of everyone’s bail was that they
could have nothing to do with the seed business, so no one could pick up the mail.
See
The Paupers of Pot and the Politics of Cannabis Prohibition In Canada. The Other Cases Raise
Questions That Canada Must Answer. Will Canada Murder Michelle Rainey?
and links

As the CC posting makes clear:
“Emery Seeds is closed for good. There is nothing to send out. There are no refunds. There are no records.”

However, given the roughly one week inherent in mail getting to Canada from the US, there would
necessarily be about a week’s worth of mail from American customers that would have accumulated
before word got out about the arrests.

It is not clear whether the Canadian police or their minders from the DEA would be allowed to open
first class mail even in these circumstances. However, they would be allowed to photocopy the outside
of the envelopes. (We know this because it came out in court that the Canadian police had photocopied
the outside of the envelopes in one mail box for about 90 days last year, before allowing it to be delivered
unopened.)

It seems very unlikely that a US Federal court would issue a search warrant for someplace simply
because the Canadian police said that the address was found on an envelope in a Canadian
mail box to which seed orders were allegedly sent. After all, no one could know what was in
the envelope. (Of course, no one should have put a real return address on the envelope,
and certainly not the address of a grow-op.)

So, what’s a nark to do??

How about a scam?

The DEA has apparently sent all of the people whose envelopes were in the mail boxes here
a flyer telling them how to incriminate themselves so that the DEA can then get a warrant.

Apparently, more than one would be customer has contacted Cannabis Culture about the
flyer, and there is now a posting at http://cannabisculture.com/articles/4483.html warning that
“These are FAKE and DANGEROUS.”

The CC web page has a reproduction of the flyer, which no one should miss. It urges recipients to
wire $100 as a “donation” to a “Samantha Christie” in Vancouver…. And email her a “confirmation
of your order.” In other words, please confess.

It also urges the recipient to “Smoke for Freedom” – Smoke for Our Leader” – “Overgrow the Government”
In short, it appeals to “Freedom” and loyalty and commitment to a cause in order to scam the recipient.
It really reminded me of some of the Nigerian” scam emails that I get everyday saying that God wants
me to help the poor by stealing a few million from a bank or country.  As I said, they can always get sleazier.

For years I have been saying that there is no lie they will not tell and no crime they will not commit.

So what is a little fraud in this context?

John Walters has said, “Using drugs is wrong not simply because drugs create medical problems;
it is wrong because drugs destroy one’s moral sense.”

When the drugwar is finally over, I think that it will be recognized that most of the evils that the
prohibitionists have attributed to “drugs” are actually inherent in the drugwar in stead.

Mayerthorpe RCMP Murders.

Filed under: — site admin @ 11:49 pm

We at Hemporium would like to draw attention to some realities surrounding the recent events involving four RCMP members murdered in Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
While there is NEVER any reason for such events, we bristle at the notion that media and others(Ann McLellan for one, the dumb twat) are reasoning cannabis into the situation
Each year, millions of dollars worth of cannabis is confiscated from organized large-scale grow-ops WITHOUT violent incident. It is the opinion of many experts that over half of Canadians consume cannabis. If the substance alone was responsible for the behaviour of James Roszko, then most of us would have been shot already! Cannabis has been clinically and socially proven to reduce aggression; it’s inflated black-market price simply makes growing it attractive to all including, unfortunately, psychopaths.
The aforementioned events have everything to do with a slack-assed justice and parole system (a failed and obviously USELESS gun registry; mandatory release for fuck-ups like Roszko) and nothing to do with cannabis itself. If all cannabis consumers quietly grew their own at home the demand and resultant high price would literally disappear , removing the organized element for the supply. It is the organized element (involved in guns, coke, prostitution, human traffiking etc.) that gives cannabis consumers a bad name.
Furthermore, when we must witness the ignorant, uneducated BLATHERING of American media and politicians wading in on the issue (”Violent Drug Exports From Canada…”) we wonder how these people have brains enough to get out of bed in the morning; WE didn’t have to shoot it out with Pablo Escobar or Manuel Noriega. There are not any go-fast boats delivering cocaine from Newfoundland!
Our murdered cops ware ambushed by a psycho with an American-made weapon imported/smuggled into our country for the sole purpose of American profiteering; CANNABIS IS NOT TO BLAME!

Volcano Vaporizer Study

Cal NORML/MAPS Study Shows Vaporizer Can Drastically Reduce Toxins in Marijuana Smoke

“Harmful toxins in marijuana smoke can be effectively avoided by a vaporization device, according to a new study by California NORML and MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) with support from a grant from the MPP (Marijuana Policy Project).
The study, conducted by Chemic Labs in Canton, Mass., tested vapors from cannabis heated in an herbal vaporizer known as the Volcano® ( manufactured by Storz & Bickel GmbH&Co. KG, Tuttlingen, Germany www.storz-bickel.com) and compared them to smoke produced by combusted marijuana. The Volcano® is designed to heat material to temperatures of 130° to 230° C (266° to 446° F) where medically active vapors are produced, but below the threshold of combustion where smoke is formed.”

“April 20th is when you find out who’s cool and who’s not,’ said Marc Emery, president of B.C.’s Marijuana Party. ‘It’s a combination of social activism and partying. It’s our day, those in the culture, to be cool.’
In Calgary, some hemp and drug paraphernalia stores closed for the ‘holiday’ while others saw a steady stream of customers.
‘We’re getting people in here we’ve never seen before and getting calls all day long,’ said Maxx Boudreau, an employee of Hemporium on 17th Avenue S.W. ‘Some of the people are new, just in it to be part of the festivities, and some are the diehards.”

Calgary’s Marijuana Trade

Putting a dollar figure on pot
Calgary’s marijuana trade is booming, but what’s it really worth?

FFWD Weekly - November 6, 2003

“I then check in with Tim Person of the 17th Avenue S.W. hemp store Hemporium. Person says he’s never really done the math, but has put some thought into the question, so I pull out a calculator and we start crunching numbers.
He guesses, based on his knowledge of the scene and the city’s population, that Calgary is home to roughly 325,000 marijuana smokers, who toke an average of four grams a week, which costs, roughly, $35. That means Calgarians fork out about $11.3 million a week for weed, which totals $591 million per year.”
